Pilate says he'll set Him free but the crowd cries "crucify!"
So they nail Him to a cross to suffer and to die.
They drove nails into His hands and feet, I heard cries of pain,
but the Lamb did not resist them as His tears fell like rain.
Looking into His eyes I thought I'd find anger burning
but all I saw were tears of love as His bloody head was turning.
Some jeered "Son of God save Yourself if what You say is true!"
But Jesus turned and said to heaven "They know not what they do."
CHORUS
Standing before the burning eyes of His abusers
the Son of God is whipped by His accusers.
He opens not His mouth, He like an innocent Lamb
is led to the slaughter like a guilty man.
Some pleaded "Let Him go!", some cried "It isn't fair!",
but the nails didn't hold Him, His love held Him there.
They tore His clothes and flesh, they scoffed and spit upon Him,
but Jesus turned His eyes toward heaven saying "Father forgive them."
For He knew we could not be saved unless He hung on that tree,
He loved us each so much He died, He gave His life for you and me.
The third day He arose, yes my friend He lives again,
still weeping with love over the heart enchained in sin.
CHORUS
